スキンケアで起こるアレルギー反応

Allergic reactions to skin care products

Allergy risks lurking in everyday skin care

Shampoo, makeup, skincare, perfume... the products that make us beautiful make us feel good.

However, they may cause skin problems or allergies.

In one dermatological study , out of 900 subjects, approximately 300 people (one-third) had an allergic reaction to ingredients in cosmetics.

When do allergic reactions occur?

Allergic reactions to cosmetics can occur immediately after starting to use a new cosmetic product, but on the other hand, you may suddenly have an allergic reaction to a cosmetic product that you have been using for years without any problems.

There are two types of skin reactions: the first is contact dermatitis .
This is a reaction in which the skin that comes into contact with cosmetics becomes itchy, red, or tingly.

The second type is allergic contact dermatitis , a serious reaction that activates the immune system.
The skin may swell, break out in hives, or become red and stinging. Symptoms can occur anywhere on the body, not just where the cosmetic product has come into contact.

What you can do to avoid skin problems and allergies

Anyone who uses cosmetics on a daily basis is at risk of skin problems and allergies.
To avoid these problems, be sure to pay attention to the following when selecting and using products.

  • Choose products with as few ingredients as possible (fewer allergens, lowering the chance of developing an allergy)
  • Before using any new cosmetics, do a patch test (apply a small amount to the inside of your elbow and observe your skin for 48-72 hours)
  • Apply perfume to clothing rather than directly to skin (this also helps prevent the fragrance from reacting with ingredients in other products)
  • Labels such as "Can be used on allergic skin", "Supervised by a dermatologist", and "For sensitive skin" do not guarantee safety for everyone's skin. Be sure to check all ingredients before purchasing or using cosmetics so that you can choose cosmetics that contain ingredients that are suitable for your skin.
